Kanchenjunga (8, 586m), the world’s third highest mountain, is located in far eastern border of Nepal and Sikkim. It is highly regarded as sacred mountain by Darjeeling and Sikkim people who offer annual tribute dance to this mighty peak. In Tibetan, Kanchenjunga means “five great treasure houses of snow”. In this mystical sanctuary of one of the world’s highest mountains, there lies the hidden treasure of knowledge that had been concealed by the famous sage Guru Rinpoche or Padmasambhava as locals believe. Discover this rarely visited trek through a stunning high alpine landscape, rhododendron forests, wild flowers and high altitude wetlands that are sanctuary to some of the most endangered animals such as elusive snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, Assamese macaque and clouded leopard etc. Unlike the other classic treks, the people living in this area like Sherpa, Limbu, Rai and Gurung ethnic may not show great hospitality as they are not accustomed with the outside world. This trek is challenging but it is worth in every aspect when you get the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most remote villages, highest mountains and experience the trekking in Himalayan gem.
